saw a show on BBC about young women in the U.K. getting their labia reduced, as in they were perfectly normal but they didn't look like the "idealized" ones in porn mags. they were talking about how many 16 year olds had it done and some even younger were inquiring about it
the host was absolutely appalled that women were doing this but it did explain why they did it, and the reasons similar to why many american guys get cut later in life
seems female circumcision is legal as long as you call it a labia reduction or clitoral hood reduction then it's perfectly ok

I've heard of such surgeries here in the US. On top of being horrifying from a cultural stand point (that women have become so manipulated by this phantom idea of beauty and normalacy that they'll cut off part of themselves that 99.99999 percent of the people they meet will never ever see) it bothers me because I'm a guy that really like big labia.

At least they have a choice and are just too stupid to make the right one. I don't think many intellectuals would ever think about cutting up their genitals just for the sake of looking "normal".

These pointless and damaging operations are expensive as the plastic butchers expect to live well, so it is any gullible woman who can afford it who has this done.
I am sure intellectuals and the less intellectual all attend these clinics cutting away healthy, sensitive tissue and leaving insensitive scar tissue.

I think people should be allowed to do whatever they want to their bodies, but not until adulthood. Sixteen years of age is a bit too young to make such a drastic decision. I'd say 18 or 21 and above should be the ages at which people are allowed to consent to such non-medical surgeries.
The persons seeking such surgeries should also be given fully informed consent - meaning they should be taught that sexual sensation may be affected by the procedures and that it is not at all medically necessary.
As far as the human urge to cut genitals, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

While some women may enjoy the sensation of their labia (my wife does), they will keep their clitoral hood and clitoris and sensation on the whole wouldn't be affected. Their cultural acceptance doesn't require them to lose entire types of sensations and alter the fundamental act itself.

Sigh, typical image obsessed women.

So if my wife gets a labia reduction can we get our newborn daughter a labia reduction because we both want our daughter to look like mommy.
