Hi there, I guess I'll tell a bit of my story here for my first post on this board. I was circ'd by my own choice at 13, so that I could look like all my friends. Wow..that was dumb! Anyway, I regretted it even before the anesthesia kicked in for the surgery (literally) So. about 8 years ago I heard about restoring on the radio, so I searched the internet and tried a few methods. (O-rings, PUD, Some big plastic rubber band thing and settled on T-Tape with a strap) I continued on and off for about 4-5 years and have just gotten back into it. I ordered a TLC Tugger and can't wait to try it. I have some skin now, but it does not keep me covered 100% of the time. I'd say I am at 35-40% of where I'd like to be. Hopefully the tugger will work out for me, cause I'm REALLY tired of the tape! I do have a 6 year old son who was spared the knife, so all is not lost. Anyway, looking forward to tugging again and looking for some good advice and encouragement on this site.

You have to go to a private place to get your baby circumcised, it is not covered by Medicare it cost's a few hundred dollars and nearly all the medical professional's try to talk parents out of it.

Unfortunetly it is covered by Medicare. That is, you get a partual refund. Several years ago it was around AUD$130 all up. I don't know how much Medicare refund.

There is private clinics in Brisbane (said to be the circumcision capital), Sydney, and Melbourne. The Brisbane and Melbourne offices are managed by in some sort of partnership. I'm unaware of any others in other states.

Apparently 'til the last few years many parents would bring their children to Brisbane.

Thanks! Since you're from Australia is circumcision as common there as it is here?

The current rate is about 20,000 (10 - 12%) per year on minors.

It is hard to find someone to perform it, and I have heard (not sure it this is true) that people training in the medical industry aren't being taught circumcision anymore..

Dr. Terry Russell *cough*butcher*cough* (the Brisbane office) has apparently got another doctor working with him. As Terry seems to be heading towards retirement. What a shame there is just another asshole to take his place.

LOL nice to meet you Quark!!

Yes I have heard so Much about Dr terry Russell. he's a very profit-driven, unethical doctor who will perform unnecessary, painful procedures on minor children if he thinks he can get away with it. Every elective infant circumcision performed is just such a procedure.

I read that he claimed his circumcisions caused "no pain" and boasted to the reporter on the day he was interviewed that he'd already performed 5 circumcisions and it was only 10am.

Oh and look at this...

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like infant circumcision is still happening in Australia, but thankfully not as much as here in the states. I think in most of the country the rates are still in the 70+% at least. Here on the west coast I believe it is a bit lower, but not as low as it should be.

I know 21 years ago when I was 13 it was considered an elective surgery. But the doctor took our money with NO questions asked. Although it was my own decision, I think the doctor should at least ask why I was doing it.....

Aw I am so sorry to hear that. That truly sucks. *hugs*
I agree, the doctor should have asked you why you wanted to do it, and your parents should have to. But the doctor even more so.

Lovehim, I find it refreshing to have you, being female that is, on this forum. I think it helps validate for us men that we're not just going on about something that isn't important.

Thankyou for that and particiaption. :)

It is okay, I continue to feel stunned by the sheer amount of ignorance there is towards male circumcision and the male anatomy.
It disgusts me and angers me to no f***ing end!
