Hi,
I'm in Chicago. I'd like to be in Washington by Friday night (March 27) and stay until Monday night or Tuesday morning (March 31).

If you want to share a room or have a bed to offer for $$, let me know.

I assume I'll fly because rates are low, but the drive is only 11 hours, and then I'd have a car and be able to lug more signs and stuff. If you're somewhere along the route we could link up:

Minneapolis/Madison/Milwaukee or
Des Moines/Rockford/
Chicago
Indianapolis/Columbus or
South Bend/Toledo/Cleveland
Pittsburgh/Washington

Splitting gas two or three ways makes driving less expensive than flying.

Contact me at RonJLow@Comcast.net with questions.

Thanks,
-Ron Low

Hi,
Monday March 30th, 2009 is the 12th anniversary of the US law that protected only girls from genital cutting. I will be demonstrating at the US Capitol all day and then will march with the intactivists to the Whitehouse at 2pm to raise awareness about the need to also protect boys and the intersexed. I'll also be at the Capitol all day Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 30th.

It would be great if you could join us. We'll have signs you can carry and literature you can hand out.

I have a room at the Marriott Tyson's Corner, 12 miles west of the Capitol by Metro. If anybody wants to bunk with me Sunday and/or Monday night, I'd be honored to split the room tab ($120/2 = $60).

BTW "bunk with me" had better not be code for something I don't know about. :) The room has 2 double beds.

Also, note that there's a Gala NoCirc Reception with Marilyn Milos and Intact America at the hotel Sunday night 3/29/09. Don't miss it. See http://IntactAmerica.org to RSVP.

Cheers,
-Ron Low

Opening up the rideshare a little more, 2 people traveling in a 4-door compact-car, from Indianapolis, Indiana to Washington DC. Room for 2 in car. You're on your own for lodging.

Leaving from Indy Saturday, returning Tuesday.

The demonstration has gone well so far. It was cold on Wednesday and raining today. Despite the weather we talked with quite a few people and distributed a lot of 3x5 cards.

If you are planning to attend, bring rain gear. The weather forecast for Sunday has improved. It's now forecast to be mostly cloudy instead of raining. Unfortunately rain is still forecast for Saturday.

So, we made it to DC.

Where on the West lawn of Capitol are we gonna be? We did some scouting but didn't see anybody.
Where do we park for it???

Same question for the march Whitehouse to Capitol

I can take addresses or WGS84 coords.

Monday morning we start at the Whitehouse/Lafayette Park and march to the Capitol (2 miles) at 2pm.

There's only one west lawn. With the rain we didn't get going until maybe 10am.

It was good to see you at the Capitol. We left the Whitehouse at 1400 from the NORTH side by Lafayette Park.

Uh, turns out that frizzen should have carried the DC map with him to that point, Garmin Mapsource showed that south side of the House to be the top end of the greenspace. The tourist map showed the park north of whitehouse, guess that's what happens when you try to pack light enough to march because you forgot to bring a small backpack.

As a side note, at the whitehouse we made their security nervous enough that a couple uniformed guards came onto the roof, one of which brought a tripod mounted spotting scope. I got a lovely pic of him staring right at me, at that point we pretty much decided it was time to relocate to the Capitol...

I did manage to meet 2 of my heros: Ron Low, and David Wilson! Also met a whole lot of other REALLY GREAT people!!!

We attended the Capitol building, and the Supreme Court building protests. Lots of pics from both, I'll try to get them uploaded somewhere quickly.

I learned that to school groups, a huge sign with "PENIS" on it in front of the Courthouse is VERY photogenic! :D

I also learned that sunburns in March are VERY possible. Sunblock next year, all the white buildings really reflect it onto you!

I realized after it was too late, that I didn't grab any pictures of the "Everybody needs TLC" geocaching TravelBug at the protest. :( I'm very upset with myself about that one. Oh well, once I remake the tag, it's getting released into the wild.

should have carried the DC map

Absolutely, because I forgot to tell you; you also missed a chance to spit on the actual God Hates Fags idiots. There are pictures of them on Flickr if you search DC protest and sort by date.

;) :o
Were you spitting on the God hates Fags idiots? :D

I'm glad that ending genital mutilation only gets confusion, laughter, and one or two people who quietly say they agree with you; instead of spitting, and total hatred by anyone with enough brain cells to be able to rub two together.
