View Full Version : Fixed set-screw slipping issue on TLC-X

I just wanted to comment on how I corrected an issue with the set-screw on my TLC-X. It was slipping down the rod. Don't get me wrong, the TLC-X seems to be of a very sound design, but the metal against metal on the set-screw to the rod doesn't provide necessary gripping. I had to tighten the screw down very tight to prevent it from slipping; and I worry that this would damage the threads.

The simple fix: I took a small piece of a rubbery material (a sliver cut from a hot-glue stick), and placed it between the screw and the rod (dropped it down the screw-hole). The rubber grips the rod much better than the metal and it prevents it from slipping. Plus, it only needs to be lightly finger-tight for a snug grip.

This concerns me because your TLC-X was purchased recently, right? It would definitely have the latest spec on the Rod, Collar, and Set Screw. I thought I had this worked out so that the tightness you could get with fingers (no tools) would work.

There's a lot of metal-to-metal for the set screw and collar to engage together, so I've found the plastic head of the set screw will break off before any thread damage. The hard stainless steel of the set screw should be able to grab into the aluminum Rod nicely.

I don't know? I had trouble with mine slipping, but I've got it working well now. Before I would have to get it pretty tight for it to stay.
