one thing that I have not seen on this board and wondered why was over lawsuits? do we not have any rights to sue the doctors, nurses and hospitals that allowed and encouraged this to happen. even if the lawsuits failed it would get the hospitals and doctors to think about the what if's.

Actually, there has been at least one lawsuit filed by a man against the doctor that circumcised him, and the man won!

I might be wrong, but I think the only ones legally able to sue the Drs. would be the parents. Circumcision is certainly an example of malpractice. The parents were given a faulty diagnosis, were deceived, the Drs motives were illegal et al. We were legally our parent's possessions with no rights of our own. We might be able to sue our parents, but few would want to do this as you would have to prove an illegal / malicious motive.

I'm not sure that is completely true, if we stood back and going by our current laws, say circumcision had never been invented till now, and people wanted to do it, it would certainly be banned,

for example if parents wanted a female circumcised no doctor would do it, why is it different for males

yesm parents have the right to decide rules, religion, etc but they do NOT have the right to mutilate and permanently lower sexual function for a surgery that is not recommended for any health reason.

we as a country have been fooled into thinking of circumcision as a medical practice when in fact is nothing more then ritual sexual mutilation, and if a jury could be convinced the repurcussions would be enormous

Also, scroll up to read the article at the top of the page.

Was a guy named William Stowell, who sued when he was 18 and settled 2 1/2 years later. Google his name and you'll find a whole bunch of other articles (and guys with the same name, of course). Restorers in Virginia might know him as the coordinator for the NORM chapter there.

What I want to know is why I haven't heard of more people filing suits or even attempting to file criminal charges. Assuming doctors are aware that it causes pain, I would think they're liable for criminal battery (Stowell sued for civil battery, in addition to fraud).

I was not so much interested in the lawsuit.. Granted It would prove a point.. However in trying to get my birth records i ran into a road block.. The hospital I was born at was sold a few times from one company to another to another.. so who's got my records? They cant answer that one.

I was looking just for informations sake.. but no one could produce it.
