Glaringly Obvious Double-Standard

Where is Nachmman getting his/her basis of comparison from? Has he actually seen a female circumcision take place, let alone a male circumcision? Would s/he be more supportive of a kind of FGM that was more "analogous" to male circumcision?

The fact of the matter is that ALL FGM is banned, and it doesn't matter what religion, and it doesn't matter the degree of severity.

Female circumcision is an important rite in African traditions, as well as some Islamic sects. Yet, under no circumstance, not even if it's "religious rite" is FGM ever allowed.

Not even if it is performed by a trained health professional, not even if it is performed in a hospital and not the bush, not even if it is performed with clean, sterile equipment, not even if the doctor uses pain killer, not even if it is done in infancy when the girl "can't remember."

The 14th ammendment says that "No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

Therefore, it is unconstitutional, not to mention bigotted, racist and sexist, that there be a law that condemns religious practices for one group, protecting only one sex, while giving religious privilege and preference to another group.
