As much as I would love to block out every single reference to the grossly overrated Sandra Bullock and all-around douchebag Jesse James, a clip on Headline News caught my attention. It was of the Today show's coverage of People magazine's cover story on Bullock and her newly adopted son. I immediately thought the worst, and whaddya know?!., within seconds they casually mentioned the poor boy's bris. The baby was in excruciating and unnecessary pain, but Sandra, her family, and the staff at People found it deeply moving and wonderful. Isn't that nice?

circumcision for whatever reason is crap. we don't allow religions to sacrifice people or Crucify people any more why do we even consider allowing someone to circumcise a baby. they are cutting off a fully functional extremely sensitive part of a baby. just because a book. written 2,000 years ago by a person of questionable sanity. told them to. but religions get special treatment. religions get tax exempt status and get to obey there own laws.

"...the greatest moment I have ever had in my life..."

Tells you who it's REALLY all about... me, me, me.

The child and his Jewish circumcision are all just adorning accessories in her come-back publicity stunt.

"I circumcised this boy, even though he's not my own flesh and blood, even though he's not Jewish, and even though I'm not Jewish. See? I'm not a neo-nazi..."

You might be interested in a 1944 Supreme Court case, Prince v. Massachusetts, discussion here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_v._Massachusetts.

Per the article, the Court "held that the government has broad authority to regulate the actions and treatment of children. Parental authority is not absolute and can be permissibly restricted if doing so is in the interests of a child's welfare. While children share many of the rights of adults, they face different potential harms from similar activities." ...

The court stated: "The family itself is not beyond regulation in the public interest, as against a claim of religious liberty. And neither the rights of religion nor the rights of parenthood are beyond limitation…The right to practice religion freely does not include the right to expose the community or the child to communicable disease or the latter to ill-health or death [as circumcision does] ... Parents may be free to become martyrs themselves. But it does not follow they are free, in identical circumstances, to make martyrs of their children before they have reached the age of full and legal discretion when they can make that choice for themselves."

That is, parents cannot harm their children for religious reasons; and children can make their own decisions about themselves as adults.

Good law! Maybe we could use a few legislatures and courts enforcing it.

Actually, Sandra's action is a great opportunity to spread the intactivist message. Many of the news blogs allow comments. These stories are widely read. Get out there and post comments about how being intact is better, how circumcision is senseless, etc. Let everyone reading about Sandra know that many oppose infant circumcision.

So... Sandra Bullock gets cheated on and humiliated by her husband, and what makes her feel better is the ritual mutilation of a penis... kind of makes you think...

Poor kid. Well, at least she feels better.

I remember Rosie O'Donnell talking about having her adopted son circumcised on her show. Made me sick. On top of her poor son getting his dick mutilated, the whole world gets to hear about it. It would be nice if celebrities could set a good example.

Saw this thread about an hour ago, and continued to think about it during lunch. I prepared something I like a lot, and don't have often. Never has it tasted so bland. Thanks, Sandra. Thanks, mommy dearest.

I remember reading about this one too.

Reminds me of a memoir some woman wrote on the pregnancy and birth of her son that I saw in a used bookstore.

She wrote something along the lines of how she had her son cut because the way an uncut cock looked made her sick to her stomach, it looked like "the penis of an animal." (exact words she used)

Sheesh. How do you talk to somebody with that kind of thought process?:(

As far as this overpaid ditz is concerned, you would think that the "most technologically advanced and civilized society on earth" would have long since moved past what amounts to nothing more than ritual tribal marking. Scary to think of how many people feel exactly like her.

Hrm... the penis of an animal...

Of which humans are not...

?

Yeah, in that case that woman needs to have her labia removed so that her vulva doesn't look like an animal's...
