I've been looking at the various tapeless methods, but I'm unsure if I have enough slack for something like the TLC tugger to hold. I've tried various tape-only methods before, and I'd rather not go back to that, so the film canister is next on my list. What I'm wondering is whethere there is a similar method to the canister, or any other solution that isn't ttape or weights (I sit at a desk most of the time). My concern with the canister is that it could be too rigid/painful, and the ridge would dig into my skin.
Thanks for any advice.

If you are unsure as to whether you have enough skin but want to go tapeless, I'd recommend buying the device you want, trying it out and if you don't have enough skin go back to a taped method until you do have enough skin for it.

Try pulling your remaining foreskin over your glans. If you can manage that, even by pushing down on the glans a little, you can use most of the methods discussed on this forum.

If you have a tight cut, don't use a device. Use manual tugging to loosen up the skin. Devices are for people who have enough loose skin to use them.

Cross taping is a common way for people to start when they do not have much skin to work with. Any of the tape methods will probably work on of the nice things about taping is it is pretty easy to adjust tension and modify things.
I can relate to your concern. I began with the pill tube method and promptly got a skin tear. I then experimented with t-tape strips and insert, and heve continued that method ever since. You can find a detailed, illustrated set of direction in this section of the forum, as a sticky.
You may have better luck getting ansewrs about non tape methods outside of the taping section.
