I've been using the TLC tugger with electrical tape for added stability and it's just great. It won't slide off at all now unless I decide pull it off.

The thing is... I'm wondering if the electrical tape is somehow toxic/bad??

It's super cheap which makes it incredibly convenient, but is it safe?

I wouldn't put electrical tape near my mucosa.

You should contact your device vendor to see what can be done to improve the fit or grippiness of your device.

I put my TLC tugger on as normal, except after I put the skin cone over the tugger, I put the electrical tape around half on the skin cone and half directly on my skin.

Why is this bad? It works so well.

I used electrical tape for weeks while using the canister option, with no problems :)

You'd probably want to find out what material the tape is made of. Sometimes vinyl is made using lead based plasticizers. I googled it and there are some on the market that specify lead free, but I'm sure not everyone cares about that with electrical wiring.

I think electrical tape works well. I have used it for my tape-rings for 9 years. I have never had any issues with allergic reactions. I don't put the tape on the mucosa whatsoever. This type of tape goes on and comes off easily, and yet stays put very well while adhered.

Agreed!

The issue with electrical tape is simply that since it is not marketed for use on skin, it has not been tested, nor is there anything to give on confidence that the materials used were chosen to be safe for human skin.

You have to decide if this risk is something you are comfortable with. Now that you know how it works and find you like it, you could also try finding something similar that is made for humans. For instance I have seen tapes at The drug store, in the first aid section, that say they do not stick to hairs or skin. Much like electrical tape, they stick only to themselves. Might be worth a try.

I see your point greg, and so perhaps it isn't wise to recommend electrical tape to strangers, I don't know. For me, it's what I'm wearing most of the times till as my tape ring. After 9 years, I imagine if I were going to develop an issue I would have by now.

I do use plastic micropore tape sometimes too, that is what I have on right now.

Whatever I use to retain, I usually leave on in the shower, and pop my glans and inner foreskin out of it like a makeshift preputial sphincter. I rinse with warm water thoroughly and slide my inner penis back into it's sheath...I dislike going in without my tape on because the hot water can cause my skin to retract, exposing the membranes to the hot chlorinated water for longer than I care for...and sometimes soap running down my body gets on the membranes too. I avoid that at all costs.

During my thirty years as an electrician we were constantly reminded not to use electrical tape as a temporary bandage for cuts and such. Apparently there were some instances of workers getting bad infections after doing just that. Everyone will have to decide for themselves if they feel it is safe to use on their private parts.
