My wife and I are going to have a baby. We are researching self-directed birth/water birth so as to make it easier for the mother and baby. This will also conveniently keep the baby safe from doctor-induced trouble. :)

Wonderful news! :D
I had an unmedicated hospital birth with my daughter, then we decided on a homebirth for our son. (But still a "dry land" birth... we had no space to put a temporary tub and our actual tub was way too small, lol.)

Wow congrats! lmao this is awesome
Just remember!
1) Don't circumcise the baby - or i'll find you!
2) Don't mutilate the baby!
3) DONT CIRCUMCISE THE BABY (bro)
yeah you get the point :)
Also a fun fact says that epidurals during pregnancy may harm the baby and cause birth defects so you may wanna look into that as well as natural birthing/home birthing. There are groups on facebook too. All the best and I hope your new child has a wonderful life and doesn't have to go through what we have!
Check out this page: Peaceful birth - interesting that it says birth is a fullfilling and orgasmic experience

You may have heard this before, but squatting is usually the best position to give birth in. Less distance for the baby to travel and gravity will help things along :)

Congratulations! My third was a water birth and they call it the liquid epidural for a reason. It really helped.
Here are a few links I like about birth and infancy and all that good stuff. You've probably seen most or all of them, but if you haven't...
http://www.drmomma.org/ - This is the peaceful parenting blog. If you search water birth or homebirth, you can find lots of interesting things.
http://www.mothering.com/community/forum/list/213 - Lots of birth stories and information.
http://hypnobabies.wordpress.com/ - I'm putting this here because I had a great hypnobabies birth with my last child and I can't say enough good things about it.
And in case you're wondering, here's my youngest's birth story. http://www.mothering.com/community/forum/thread/1193634/hazel-lea-eleanor-is-on-the-outside-novel-length-birth-story-alert
Congratulations again. I'm always so glad to hear of a pregnancy when I don't have to wonder what will happen if it's a boy.
