View Full Version : Technical Question regarding TLC-X & DTR push rod screw sizes (Ron? Chuck?)

Not sure if this would be the best section to ask this.

Would any of you (including but not limited to the makers of said devices) happen to know the exact diameter in millimeters of the thread size on the tip of both the TLC and DTR center/push rods?
I'm looking for an adaptor that would enable me to use the pushers/push plates from both devices interchangeably and wondering if any of these adapters (http://www.thorlabs.com/NewGroupPage9.cfm?ObjectGroup_ID=1745) would work, or what sizes to look for on the internal and external ends.

Hi,
The thread on the TLC-X Pusher is 6-32. The DTR uses a coarser thread. Tom at CAT knows what it is because he has made some Pushers for the DTR as well as for the TLC-X. His ID here is CAT something. He's more active at Tally's forum.

If you find out that thread style for the DTR I could make silicone Pushers with that threaded fitting.

Did a quick test with a 1/4in bolt I had handy. Fit's the DTR Pusher nicely.

Diameter 1/4 in
Thread pitch is listed as coarse, which should be 20 threads per inch.

Thanks a lot, guys!
8-32 seems to be a more common size for this kind of adaptor, which is a little too thick, but seems very doable, knowing what to aim for.

I hadn't thought about you making DTR pushers yourself, but if you're into the idea there'd probably be some interest for it.
Might just wait for one myself if I can't find the right adaptor.

I misplaced the main part of my TLC-X a while back but still have one of my pushers, and ordered a DTR in the meantime, and overall I'm happy with it (though I'd like to alternate with the TLC-X when I find it) but the notched nylon push plate (while I love the shape and definitely prefer it to a plastic one) can be a little too aggro on my glans to attempt long sessions at high tension, and I'd really prefer silicone, which I've been kind of spoiled by in using the TLC-X.

I'm also curious about your new clear, grippier Your-Skin Cones, as one of the main things I like about the DTR is how almost-excessively well it stays on, so I'll probably pick a couple of those up with a DTR pusher if you're seriously about to start making them, for retaining and whenever I actually find my TLC-X. (I know it's in the house somewhere, so it'll turn up)

Just to clarify, the TLC rod is 3/16" in diameter {mod: no it's 1/8"} in addition to having a 6-32 thread pitch?
i.e. Something like this standoff piece (http://www.filedropper.com/tlc4dtr) would fundamentally work, although not allowing for quite the same kind of streamlined use as an actual custom procured DTR-fitting TLC pusher?

The TLC-X Rod is 1/8" diameter aluminum.

Thanks for specifying.
Was basically guessing, but it didn't seem right.
Makes what I'm looking for seem a lot more straightforward.
Like a mini-jack adaptor, sort of. (might've noticed if I'd compared both rods to headphone jacks, for lack of measuring tools)
As one could probably guess, I'm one of the furthest things from an engineer, and I think I initially equated the thread pitch with the thread diameter.
Don't know if you're still thinking about DTR-sized pushers, but it seems more and more like it'd be a popular conversion.
Noticing lot've other folks just on this forum having issues with the DTR push plates.
