Bonjour

Could someone translate this please? I wanna see what goes on in Norway.

I found this translation on google and modified it slightly. It's enough to understand what this is about.

Circumcision under threat in Norway!!

After Denmark, where the subject is regularly discussed, it is now in Norway that this subject is being studied ... Representatives of a small local Jewish community expressed their concern this week after the National Representative for Children announced consider making circumcision illegal for those under 15 years. That is the legal age set by Norwegian law for a person to make decisions about his own body.

In light of that, [Jewish] community leaders sent a letter to the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jonas Gahr Store, and to Justice Knut Storberget, to warn against the harm that such a ban would cause to the country's image. "This would make the headlines in the Jewish world, and give credit to the notion that Norway is a country hostile to Jews, Anne Sender has warned, on behalf of the local Jewish community. That would mean that Jews once again would not have the right to live in the kingdom ... " A reference to the prohibition against Jews settling in this country, which was lifted at the end the 19th century. Decimated during the Second World War, the Norwegian Jewish community has only 700 members today in Oslo and 200 at Trondheim.Par Serge,. According to Serge Golan, one [Norway] would be partnering with Hamodia [?].

My opinion. Jews make up only a small part of the Norwegian population (900 people) and I think 1.6% of the U.S. population. Yet they have disproportional influence over the circumcision debate. Jews consider circumcision to be a sacred religious rite, part of a covenant with god. So they'll make whatever arguments it takes to protect that, including arguing that letting 15 year old Jewish Norwegians make their own decisions about their own bodies is the same as driving Jews from the country, and continuing oppression and exclusion. It's playing the race/religion/persecution card.

The fact is, circumcision causes extreme suffering, harms all men, and can cause death (all for a cosmetic, non-therapeutic operation that few men choose, and even some Jews reject). The Supreme Court has made clear that while everyone has a right to choose his own religion, and to believe whatever he wants, it is unlawful to harm children or even to risk harm to them for religious reasons (Prince v. Massachusetts, 1946). So circumcision is definitely unlawful and trumps religious rights.

Moreover, every person (including children) has a constitutional right to choose his own religion. Parents don't have any right to impose a religion upon a child. At best, they can bring a child up following (non-harmful) religious traditions, and hope that he chooses the same religion as an adult. The fact is, many boys raised as Jews renounce it.

It's also unconstitutional to protect women's genitals and not men's.

So the Jewish argument is completely unfounded. I hope intact countries like those in Europe and the English speaking countries, stop merely denouncing it, and start banning it, as it's a terrible, extremely harmful, sacrificial practice, contrary to the most basic humanitarian principles of freedom, equality, and the right to pursue happiness however one chooses.

Of course you are right, the only problem is these politicians might not realize what the heck circumcision is, or what the consequences are.
If someone could inform them.
