Post here when you get internal server error

Got the error when I clicked the New Posts link to refresh the new posts page after reading some posts. Clicked refresh on my browser and the site returned.

Been getting the internal server error message a few times since i have been browsing/posting.

I get it all the time, there seems to be no rhyme or reason, I've had to switching forums, attempting to open threads, clicking the Reply button on a thread, while submitting a reply to a thread.

So now what can I do to lean on GoDaddy about it?

Are they ones mantaining the software on your site? Or are they just providing the server, and you have someone else managing the software that goes on the server?

If GoDaddy's running the whole thing then I'd tell them they need to check the error logs and figure out what's going on. Honestly it could just be something that needs a minor tweak, or it could be something more substantial, like a hardware failure.

I am still getting the 500 errors at random times.

Ron, GoDaddy is the Walmart of web hosting services. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I used them for 3 hours before I decided to find another web hosting service for my sites.

The 500 error typically occurs when there is a configuration error, such as an error in the htaccess file, the web server is overloaded, or a new module is installed and it has problems. Did you make any changes to your vBulletin software just before the errors started? Did GoDaddy change any server software recently? (sometimes upgrades will break something that was working)

Good luck troubleshooting this.

I called about this on Monday and was told where to find my error logs and nothing more. The guy I talked to was a total butthole about it and refused to entertain any possibility that the error was due to slow / overloaded GoDaddy shared servers.

I didn't change anything except the session timeout variable, but I'm not sure if that coincided with the onset of these error messages. I posted here about it when I did it so we could see when that was. Increasing the session timeout to 30 minutes means the host system will have more accounts to keep user info active simultaneously. Our high reached over 200 recently.

The guy I talked to at GoDaddy was really talking out of his ass. For example he insisted my account only allowed me to send 250 emails a day, deliberately, because any higher volume is thought of as spamming. I explained that I know for a fact that the forum software sends out up to 1000 emails a day to people about activity in their subscribed threads, or when I use a bulk mail script I bought, AND that this was quite a low volume compared to countless forums running out there. This raises another question: do guys get their daily forum emails? I KNOW the 1000 bulk mails go through because I get replies.

Turns out the 250 outgoing emails is the limit for each of the comp'd webmail accounts offered with the hosting plan, and a different limit applies to emails generated by web scripts.

I have mine set not to send emails notifying me of replies or private messages, but I do get the "report abuse" emails. No problem there.

Got the 500 error first when first trying to load the site and then when signing in. I don't know much about them, but I wouldn't expect too much from a company with such a professional sounding name as GoDaddy.
