Default 2012-07-01 NYC Health - Hearings on "waiver of liability" for parents to sign

Compromise proposed in NY for controversial circumcision technique

Practice of ‘metzitzah b’peh’ recently under fire for health risks

The article says health officials have proposed requiring that Jewish parents sign a consent waiver in order to use a controversial circumcision-related rite involving direct (adult) oral suction on the (infant's) raw circumcision wound

A public hearing on the consent waiver proposal is scheduled for next month, with a vote by the board slated for September.

So we need to get in the loop for the board's calendar and represent at the July meeting.

So boys die from an especially dangerous form of circumcision (babies are susceptible to herpes infection and can die or I believe be brain damaged for life), and this is the second time (there was one death and two seriously injured in 2004 and 2005 in the same part of NY), and all the health department is going to do is request a special consent form signed by parents??

Wow, going all out to protect boys from death and serious injury! Ban the freaking barbaric practice. Even most Orthodox Jews use a straw {glass tube}. Great, everyone back down to a tiny subset of Jews who together represent 1.6% of the population, and let the children suffer.

Why not enforce the law? You can't punch someone in the face or amputate an arm for religious reasons, and parents can't circumcise boys (which risks serious injury and death and harms them all) for religious reasons.
