She knew what she had and thought it was great that she was unique and had the best of both worlds. Another one had no vaginal opening but got great pleasure when the area became wet. The "reconstructive" surgery left her with a big, painful open sore and no feeling. Like circumcision, these surgeries are done for the parent's hang ups and the child's healthy sexual functioning is an afterthought

I get so angry that modern medicine can so many great advances, but when it comes to sex organs and sexuality, modern medicine is still caught in the mid-nineteeth century. Why does the Hippocratic oath not apply to sex organs, especially in the USA?
The hippocratic oath seems to be ignored in a lot of cases. Mention cancer, and suddenly its fine to lop off nearly anything and everything, whether it is affected or not. This is pre-Victorian practice, for ****s sake.

Going back to the intersex issue: genuine hermaphrodites (with two sets of genitals) seem to be quite rare, but what I've seen more commonly to be problematic is narrow ranges of "acceptable" genital shapes and sizes. Like you say in one of your examples, an otherwise female individual who also happened to gestate with a penis. Does no harm, in fact I'd say it was the reverse - I wonder if males felt threatened by it though...

Here's how rare: multiply the probabilty of having a visually intersex condition (something between one in 500 and one in 2000 depending on how intersex is defined) times the probabilty of having a conjoined twin situation.

I think the only way someone can literally have both types of genitals is if one partially divided twin undergoes some sort of hormonal stressor that the other does not. Otherwise, since all genitals start from the same female tissue until 3 months gestation, you can see situations along the spectrum between male-ized and the default female state, but never for example with both a clitoris and a penis.

I've seen just the one case so far, but then I'm about half your age so it stands to reason I'm not that experienced with these issues.

I'm wondering if the female South African runner might be the result of a baby boy who had a botched circumcision and was then made into a girl right after birth.

I've ready two reports, the first says she has both sex organs, the other is not yet confirmed but it says she has no ovaries and no womb. She does not look anything like a female in features, body shape, and muscular structure.

In an odd way, I'm hoping to be correct because it would take a world-wide, high profile athlete and focus all of the issues surrounding this "controversy" of a male competing as a female, and focus it back on the horrors of circumcision on little boys. The compassionate side of me is wishing this isn't the case and that she can continue to be a woman and compete. I think we'll know in the next couple of days...

As what I know, the cutting of the penis glans is the one of several risks of circumcision. If the penis glans was cut too excessive,so the male victim must do a "sex-change" operation. This risk is very common in circumcision.I often heard in news about this incident in Indonesia (my country).
I think that female who you speak about is a victim of excessive penis cutting.

I will struggle to realize that day.
That day won't be realized without our struggle.

That... that there just makes my blood boil.

It's just sad how many heartless, disrespectful, idiotic, and bias medical 'professionals' we have as doctors. You gotta be careful with doctors, if you don't agree with them - then you are ABSOL-BLOODY-LUTELY RIGHT!

Being independent is also key. Pieces of trash doctors should go to jail and the medical place should revoke his license for the rest of his life, but as far as we know, America isn't a democracy. It's a corporatocy

i remember seeing that on tv years ago it. stuff like this is truly horrible. this kid won't be able to have children. and most likely will have little to no sexual sensation

Circumcision is a partial sex-change surgery. Like it or not, it's quite literally what it is.
