This a graphic I created, which has gotten a very positive response both on facebook as well as on my tumblr blog, so I wanted to share it here.

Absolutely awesome!

The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is the idea of some kind of "decision". There is no possibility of any decision. Nobody normal decides whether to cut off part of their body or not.

Keeping self-mutilation as some kind of option is really weird. There is something unnatural about it. It's not a legitimate decision to make by anybody at any age.

I think it's time we started de-legitimizing this barbaric satanic act, in the same way an army de-humanizes the enemy.

I love it but I would add a thin line from the center straight up to the edge so it looks like other "100%" pie charts I've seen.

Excellent point.

And I would remove the point about any "decision". I want to eliminate even the idea of there being any possibility by ANYBODY to DECIDE or not, to something so criminal to another person or to themselves.

Thanks for the comments! The graphic's gotten tons of attention since I posted it on my tumblr blog (more than I expected), so I'm very happy.

I think the tone of this message is intended to be more carrot than stick, and rather than saying "circumcision is mutilation", the message is "why would you even want to do it in the first place? what's the big hurry?"

As far as the technical aspects of the pie chart, it was based on the popular format exemplified by the Gay Marriage pie chart.

I strongly disagree about people here saying remove the "decision" bits. You've made it clear that the decision is the child's. And as it should be.

We should NOT bad circumcision. We should not limit the freedoms of individuals just because there's some obsessed group out there who demands what THEY want. If we ban circumcision altogether, we're no better than the doctors who blindly perform it. Except, they already won and have more influence than an online forum ever will.

Everyone's objective in this should be to allow the child to come of age and decide for himself. We should be opposed to other people deciding for them, because it is NO ONES to make - doctor or "intactivist". If they want circumcised once they come of age, they damn well better be able to get a circumcision. If someone wants a body piercing when they come of age, they damned well better be able to legally get one. Same goes for tattoos, drinking a beer, having sugar (a natural drug), etc.

aftugger - good picture! You hit the nail on the head. I wouldn't change a damn thing as I feel illustrating their own choice when they come of age is most effective. Well, maybe that thin line to make it a proper pie chart.

EDIT: Oh, and it should be "his son's penis", not penises.

That one is clever and shitty at the same time. A pie chart is inappropriate for the non-mutually exclusive outcomes listed.

This is very very wrong unless clearly stated that it is HIS OR HER choice to be mutilated as an adult. In no way should it be suggested, even indirectly, that a male's genitalia is worth less than that of a female. And in no way should it be described as a choice. Mutilation is not a "choice" for people to make. It must not be described or suggested at all. Please remove this ugly stain from your otherwise cool pie chart.

Think this over and think clearly.
