I think a chat would be a boost for the site. Sharing ideas and bouncing ideas instantly would be great. I think it's worth a shot to see how well it works.

A chatbox would be great. There are several free chat modules available for vBulletin. This thread lists a few with this one being the most widely recommended as far as I can see.
