I am sure many of you already know this, but I recently heard him touting his view on circumcision yet again...
I recently heard a morning radio talk show here in the Bay Area of California called the "Woody Show" on Live 105.3 FM (how appropriate) talking about circumcision. The main guy, named Woody, was talking about how he was definitely going to circumcise his unborn son once he is delivered. Many callers called in and agreed with him, which is not surprising considering the demographic that listens to these kinds of shows. It was disheartening to not hear one caller disagree with him, although I am sure they screened out anyone who opposed. They only talked about how they had received many e-mails of people opposing who thought it was barbaric. Woody even went on to say that the only reason un-cut guys are so against it is because they are jealous that they didn't have it done as an infant, and if they did it now, would have to go through and remember all of the pain involved, which is why they don't do it. Ridiculous. Anyway, as the show went on, Woody reassured himself that what he was doing was right by having Dr. Drew Pinksy call in and tell him the benefits of circumcision, and why everyone should do it to their child. Dr. Drew is a famous "board-certified practitioner" here in the US who is well known for his TV show appearances and nightly radio show Love Line that answers questions called in by teenagers about sex and relationships. You would think that someone as smart and knowledgeable as him, which he really is, wouldn't be for promoting such an unnecessary surgery. It really annoys me that someone like Dr. Drew who has so much influence on people here in the US, especially younger generations who listen to his radio show, is spreading this pro-circ garbage. I can remember listening to the show a while back when Adam Carolla was on, and whenever the topic would come up of sensitivity of a circ'd vs. un-circ'd penis, he would quickly and coldly deny that there is any difference and say that many man who have the surgery done later in life report no difference. Garbage. One time I was listening to Love Line, a girl called in and was talking about her boyfriend, and how he was embarrassed about being un-cut. She said he simply didn't like having the extra skin, and that there were no problems with it other than him not liking how it looked. Dr. Drew quickly recommended that he get circumcised! I mean come on! How can you recommend cutting off any body part to someone who is not even having any problems with it to begin with. A little reassurance, like the fact that the majority of the world is not circumcised and that he is perfectly normal would have been better! Anyway, I guess this was just a rant. It really sucks that Dr. Drew is for circumcision, because up until I found out about restoring, and the benefits of the prepuce, I really respected him. |

The human mind is good at filtering information. It is very difficult to remain unbiased for most people. Very disheartening when people like that cannot see the tradeoffs and realize that circumcision is a bad choice most of the time.
I am hopeful that this is slowly changing...very slowly.

Very depressing. One thing I often wonder...how is someone who spends all their time doing shows...practicing medicine? How does one gain any real experience with it when one is a spread-thin celebrity? He is smart, but maybe that's why he has no "real" insight, only clinical expertise. He touts his "field experience", but he's a fairly young guy, so how much experience does he really have. Maybe a lot, I don't know. But it seems to me docs who practice medicine don't have time to go around tv and radio shows talking medicine. Maybe I'm wrong.
What's also depressing is no matter how smart someone is...there is always a dumb hole. His views and training don't allow him to understand or penetrate the meaning of things. When someone calls in, like a girl, and she says she's having trouble with her boyfriend sexually, cheats on him, or anything for that matter, it's always "so, no dad in the picture, right?" "nope". "hw was alcoholic, right?". "Yep". "he sexually abused you, too". "No". "are you sure?". "yeah". "he abused you, and you're not ready to admit it. That's why you're acting out". "ok, maybe". Every time, it goes like this. And you know, he's usually right. But his clinical understanding of the conditions that make us pathological don't seem to include smaller things like genital circ. Only being raped by an alcoholic parent. |

Woody started that topic on a Friday and they trotted Pinksy out on Monday. Before they did they were talking about the hate mail, and I recognized a phrase from the email I had sent them.
It's so odd that in the same city, Dr. Dean Edell is on the air saying the opposite practically weekly. Why not get both guys on the phone instead of having this one-sided non-debate? (Because Pinsky had something to plug, his celebrity rehab show). Notably, of the 4 callers they let on, 25% (one guy) had a report of a horrid disfigurement that accompanied his son's circumcision. -Ron |

Re: Was I ever wrong - you're not just a bunch of morons Date: Sat, Mar 14, 2009 12:24 AM ...You're also very dangerous. I can't believe you would parrot all those lies about penises. If you play back the circumcision segment and imagine "girls" substituted for "boys" in every case, you guys didn't say a single thing that isn't used to justify female mutilation in Africa and the Middle East. There is no national medical association of doctors on earth (not even Israel's) that endorses routine circumcision. Most roundly condemn it. To the guy who said a kid should not be made to feel odd: Guess what? LESS THAN 25% of baby boys are being circumcised in California these days. Cut babies are merely branded with their parents' ignorance. To the lady who said she didn't want to have to clean an intact penis in diapers: Guess what? The American Academy of Pediatrics advises doing nothing to a normal penis that you wouldn't do to eyelids. It's self-cleaning. Leave it alone, they say. Clean only what is seen. NEVER retract someone else's foreskin. What could be WORSE than an open wound healing in diapers, anyway? To the guys saying they would rather not remember the procedure: Tough. Adults can tolerate much more pain relief during the procedure and can self-manage the pain during recovery much better, with higher doses. Adult circumcision results are MUCH better because everything is bigger so a tiny error doesn't get magnified as the penis grows up. NO DOCTOR has any idea how much skin to leave on a baby because nobody knows how big he'll get or what state of turgidity he's in during the procedure. To the IDIOTS (including doctors) saying the complication rate of infant circumcision is about 1%: A) Isn't that high enough to make you avoid the chance of a screw up? and B) HELL NO it's not 1%. There IS NO registry of the circumcision complications that appear as the male matures, including skin bridges (as reported by 25% of your callers) and painfully tight erections. Google "Circumcision Damage" and if you think an intact penis looks funky, prepare to vommit at what many guys have to live with just because some butcher couldn't keep the knife away from his infant genitals. Circumcision complications are WAY under-reported. 1% comes from the immediate treatable complications, and has nothing to do with sloppy surgical work. EVERY circumcision costs the boy the most nerve-rich part of his penis. That's 100% complications. To all of you saying sex is no different for the woman: You're ignorant and way off. The normal slack skin affords an awesome frictionless rolling/gliding action that makes intercourse more plush and comfortable for her. 95% of the non-Muslim world does not circumcise. Who do you think these guys are having children with? WOMEN! The 20,000 nerve endings in the foreskin and frenulum give a male better feedback so can control and pace himself for her pleasure. Cut American guys think they can ram their way to their partner's pleasure. Intact guys are in no hurry to get to a big finish because it all feels SO good, and they know to use their hands during intercourse to give her maximum pleasure with a more gentle sensual action. To the fools taken in by these "studies" claiming reduced STDs for cut guys: Condoms are proven 95 times as effective than the claimed benefit of circumcising, but the real story is that the tiny cadre of guys responsible for the three large non-double-blinded non-placebo controlled Africa circ/HIV trials are long-time circumcision justifiers and PR experts, nothing more. It's obvious, really. The study was DONE, RIGHT HERE over the last 30 years. MOST of the dead US men who have died of AIDS were circumcised at birth. Circumcision does not prevent AIDS or other STDs. Europe, where cutting is very rare, has one-third the HIV rate we have. Whatever small risk reduction that was found in the Africa controlled trials does not play out in the real world, including 7 African nations where it is the circumcised who have markedly higher HIV rates. Besides, INFANTS DON'T have sex. It can wait until he can weigh in when he's older (there might even be vaccines for stuff when he's 18 that we can't imagine today). Foreskin feels REALLY good. HIS body HIS decision. Please recant your recent nonsense before somebody takes your advice and harms another infant. The US is the last country still cutting a majority of babies for non-religious reasons. You can help end it, or you can perpetuate ignorance. Regards, -Ron Low |

Re: You Bloody Fools Date: Sun, Mar 16, 2009 12:06 PM Dr. Drew didn't refute any of the human rights points. He only said it doesn't matter. To you guys and to him - none of you know what you're missing - it may not matter. But only about 2 in 1000 intact adults choose to get cirucmcised. There are hundreds of thousands of men tediously restoring there foreskins to create a shadow of the pleasure-receptivity taken from them. Dr. Drew is not a circumcision specialist, which he admitted on your show when a specific procedural question was asked. NO NATIONAL MEDICAL ASSOCIATION of doctors ANYWHERE (not even Israel) endorses routine circumcision. The EXPERT panel of the American Academy of Pediatrics says the potential benefits do not outweigh the known risks and drawbacks. Circumcision is therefore NOT therapeautic. It is cosmetic pleasure-reducing surgery and only the owner of the foreskin has the right to surrender to it. AGAIN you guys fretted that a child has a right to not be an oddball, but in California only 25% of infants are cut. WHAT IS SO BAD about waiting until he can decide for himself? Foreskin feels REALLY good. HIS body HIS decision. Regards, -Ron Low |

I wonder how "so that he won't be an oddball" counts as a medical reason to do anything.
The foreskin must be this genetically caused tumor that somehow happens to each and every male human being. Except for NOT... Tag the e-mail address to the show on here and put it in the "calls to action" board. Every guy who can must write in to these assholes. |

Probably the same parents that will throw a fit when their son grows up and wants to get an earring or a tattoo. Parents like that are idiots and should be rounded up and shot on sight. Fucking scumbags.

So I guess I'm not the only one who heard the Woody Show that day. Ron, I should have known you you would have caught wind of it... nothing circ-related gets by you!
Did you get any responses to either of those two emails? I doubt you did... they were talking trash about receiving emails on the show from "crazy people" who were against circumcision. I was going to call in, but I was in the car with my gf who is tired of me bringing up the circumcision rants... she'll never really understand I guess. Although she is very tolerant of my restoration.I didn't hear the later shows including the one where Dr. Drew called in, only the first show where the topic was brought up. I have, though, heard Dr. Drew on his Love Line show (as I already mentioned) talking about circumcision. Its really too bad that there are probably so many other "board-certified practitioners" out there just like him and people put their faith in what they say without even doing the research for themselves. |

Doesn't Pinsky have a rehab center or something he owns? Everybody should bombard the place with hate mail.
