At first I had much trouble and frustration trying to get the TLC-X (even without the rod) to stay on, and for a week or two decided to put it in a drawer and stick with the tape method until I had more skin. But I got tired of the sticky deposits the tape left and gave the tugger another try. I discovered that I didn't have to be shy about using the inner cone (again, without the rod) to push my glans down deeper so that the skin naturally rolled up onto the sides of the inner cone and then I could successful affix the outer cone and have it stay put. Having discovered the "push-the-glans-out-of-sight" technique I was soon able to start using the rod, too.
The surface of the inner cone that presses on the glans isn't exactly shaped to accommodate the glans but it has never been a problem -- thus giving the TLC-X added utility for those who simply may not have enough skin to start using the rod right away.
My progress report: in the beginning I was able to push the rod in 1/4" or so; now I can easily push it in over an inch. That's over a tugging period of 15 months. It's not unusual 15 months later to look down when undressed and see no sign of Mr. Glans; that had never been the case before.
