quote 4) Circumcision is a human rights violation: Not true. I agree there are some people that think that circumcision should be a human rights violation and they have every right to feel that way. Still, that doesn't make it a reality. We have accepted organizations that deal with these issues and decide- based on many factors- which activities are acceptable and which violate basic human rights. These organizations have agreed that circumcision IS NOT a human rights violations because of it's a very safe procedure and it carries some medical benefits. This myth usually goes hand in hand with a comparison of male circumcision and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). However, the two practices are completely different in every single aspect: physical, psychological, emotional, social and religious. They're not comparable in the slightest, but since they're both done is the same general area, and because FGM is a degrading practice and an accepted human rights violation, anti-circumcision activists usually use it to try to put circumcision in a more negative light. Sadly, it does the opposite. By comparing something as traumatic, damaging, dangerous and degrading as FGM with a simple, safe and beneficial procedure demeans the impact of FGM. It's a poor way of treating the women that have been victims of FGM and a way to demean their pain. Finally, Amnesty International has directly declined to accept male circumcision as a human rights violation 3 times. end quote She is the mom of two unlucky boys. Maybe if she had a cut penis and restored she would change her mind. |

Unfortunately she appears to be the typical American mum, although she seems rather shallow - not being aware of the real issues and just having a superficial understanding. She has eaten up all the pro-circ nonsense and is suffering from cultural blindness. She has had her sons cut, so having gone down the circumcision path she has to justify what she has done by cherry picking i.e. confirmation bias - the result of cognitive dissonance.

Clearly in denial. I've seen plenty like her, too, which is a shame.

Ignorant and self-serving.
She seems to be appealing to the masses, authority and popular opinion, which, of course, as we all know isn't fallacious at all! ![]() What she says about FGM and MGM speaks to her ignorance and her wishful thinking. Comparing male circumcision with female circumcision does not belittle or minimize female circumcision; this is impossible. The real problem is that as someone who allowed circumcision on her own children, the possibility that she has allowed mutilation on her own offspring is simply unacceptable to her. She must continue to exaggerate female circumcision in order to be at peace with herself for allowing male circumcision on her own children. Accusing intactivists of "trying to belittle" female circumcision is, of course, pure self-interested projection; it is advocates who belittle male circumcision by blowing female circumcision as out of proportion as possible. Ask this woman to provide scientific explanation for her claims. Challenge her and ask her if she knows about the different types of female circumcision that exist, even as acknowledged by the WHO.

It's this same ****ing sexist bull**** as usual. Misandristic bull****! It's fine to hurt boys (they're tough! they can take it!) but unacceptable to hurt girls (they're so precious and their lives are so much more valuable!). I know this is going to make me sound sexist now, but it's people like this mother who push me further and further towards feeling like I hate women. I know they're not all bad, I've even loved one or two, but when I hear things like this it can be hard to remember that!
